There are many myths and misunderstandings about manufactured homes. It's important to remember not to believe everything you hear and to do your own research. Many people only know about manufactured homes based on what they have heard, rather than firsthand knowledge. This article aims to clarify some of these myths and provide accurate information about manufactured homes.
Don't believe everything you hear. There are lots of myths out there about manufactured homes. Most of them are not true. People don't know what they don't know about manufactured homes. Most people only know what they have heard about manufactured homes. Hopefully this will set the record straight on many of these myths.
Myth #1: Manufactured Homes Are More Vulnerable To Fire
Reality:
In 1976, the construction of manufactured homes has to adhere to a national building code set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These strict construction standards made manufactured homes subject to the same standards for fire-resistance as traditional homes. According to anational fire safety study
from the Foremost Insurance Company shows that site-built homes are twice as likely to experience a fire than manufactured homes. According to this study, there are 17 fires per 1,000 stick-built homes and only 8 fires per 1,000 manufactured homes.
Myth #2: Manufactured Homes Are Built Poorly
Reality:
Manufactured homes are built with the same materials as traditional homes. Before a manufactured home is sold, it must pass inspections by the National Conference of States on Building Codes and Standards as well as HUD. All plumbing, heating and electrical systems are all tested for compliance. Manufactured homes have to transported by road to the site. As a result of this road transportation, everything must be reinforced with highly quality materials.
Myth #3: A Manufactured Home Can't Build Equity
Reality:
Building equity in a manufactured home is possible but there are several factors that need to be true for this to happen. You need to make sure that your manufactured home is placed on a permanent foundation and that you own the land that the home is on. Also, the home needs to be well maintained. If all these things are true, then a manufactured home can build equity. Of course, location and demand can dictate if your property will gain value.
Myth #4: A Manufactured Home Is Vulnerable to Storms
Reality:
After the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew in the 1992, the standards for manufactured homes were raised in order to make the homes more resistant to wind. Today, manufactured homes have to pass a meticulous inspection during construction by a third party. They are built to withstand winds of up to 110 mph due to standard developed by HUD.
Takeaway
