Tour the Newest Manufactured Homes today!
More and more people in the U.S. are starting to recognize the laundry list of the advantages of manufactured homes. Manufactured homes are not only far more affordable than traditional or stick-built homes, but they can also be built in almost half the time. Plus, manufactured homes these days are designed to save energy, making them a more ecologically responsible alternative to traditional homes.
But when you are in the market for a manufactured home, what are your options? Let’s find out!
The two most popular types of manufactured homes are single wide manufactured homes and double wide manufactured homes.
Single wide manufactured homes
Single wide manufactured homes are, as the name implies, built as a single unit. Over the years, however, their size has increased. Single wide manufactured homes began to gain popularity during the Second World War and were on the rise in the 1950s. In the 1970s, the government passed a law requiring the construction of manufactured homes in accordance with the standards of the Urban Department of Housing (HUD). Nowadays, these long and narrow houses can range from 700 to 1,600 square feet. With interior space of between 850 and 950 square feet, their size is more like that of a one or two-bedroom apartment.
Considering the size of single wide manufactured homes, they are ideal for one person or a couple.
Double wide manufactured homes
Double wide manufactured homes are made up of two separate units, which are transported separately to the site. First appearing in the 1960s, the size of a double wide manufactured home can range from as small as 100 square feet to as large as 3,240 square feet. That being said, the majority of double wide manufactured homes today are between 1,300 square feet and 1,800 square feet in size.
The cost of setting up a double wide manufactured home will be substantially lower if you plan to set one up in a park as the utilities are permitted and already in place. On the other hand, if you plan to set a double wide manufactured home on the land you own, the costs go up, as you would be required to obtain the necessary permits first.
Ideal for families, double wide manufactured homes are a lot like traditional or stick-built homes with more than enough space to live comfortably.
